Telephone interpreting can be useful for focused conversations when video is unnecessary or impractical. Because the interpreter cannot see gestures, documents or who is speaking, introduce everyone and explain any relevant context aloud. For visual material, discuss whether video would work better.

Agree on who starts the call, how the interpreter joins and how many people will participate. Check the line, choose a quiet location and avoid speakerphone noise. Speak clearly in short sections, identify each speaker and pause so the interpreter can convey the message.
How to request an interpreter
Send your language pair and dialect, date, local time and time zone, expected duration, meeting subject and preferred format. For an in-person assignment, include the country, city and venue. We review your requirements and confirm availability and suitable arrangements before you book. A request does not reserve an interpreter.
